In the December issue of British Vogue, writer Kathleen Baird-Murray declares that cleavage may be going out of style.
In the feature "Desperately Seeking Cleavage," Baird-Murray writes that "suddenly cleavage feels wrong," and that "all the cool girls are braless" adding, "the amount of skin there is on show is an indicator of how little power you really have." And rather surprisingly social media has played a 'powerful' part in the decline of the lower neckline.
The magazine argues that covering up on red carpets and at celebrity events have minimised the "risk of being harassed" on the likes of Instagram and Twitter. Stylist to the stars, Elizabeth Saltzman, quoted by Vogue as saying of one of her clients, "on those occasions where her cleavage is more visible, I see what happens on her Instagram feeds afterwards, and out of 100,000 comments, 90,000 will be about her boobs. That's not healthy, it's creepy."
The powerhouse then went on to create a topic of conversation on Twitter via a poll which didn't go the way they planned with 67% of over 34,000 voters saying that if you've got, flaunt it and a mere 11% siding with the magazine saying that cleavage is over.
Cleavage isn't over and it never will be. It's a matter of opinion. Yes, it might be the current trend to go braless and opt for a triangle bra or bralet than a push-up bra but that doesn't mean we should be covered up to the neck. If you've got it, then flaunt it!
