American Vogue March Cover

'No norm is the the norm' cites Vogue on the cover of their March issue. Their diverse cover that celebrates 'the modern American woman' by featuring models of different body types, skin tones and ethnicities, is sign that the industry is finally accepting the idea that beauty comes in all forms.

With supermoderls, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Ashley Graham, Adwoa Aboah, Liu Wen, Vittoria Ceretti, Imaan Hammam in Prada polo necks and printed high-waisted shorts, the magazine has pulled out all the stops for this cover. But people are less than impressed.

Users took to Twitter to raise their opinion on not just the lack of diversity on the cover but also a slight photoshop error with Gigi's hand on Graham's stomach. Her arm and hand has become longer than your average, in what we can only assume is down to photoshop on plus-size model Graham. The magazine probably thought that would go unnoticed - it hasn't.

One user, @BibaGirrrl, wished for more inclusivity with a variety of skin tones, heights and ages, as well as more diversity within every issue.

Another worte, "You had such a great chance here and I've never been more disappointed. I hope that in the future you'll finally start taking a chance on women that represent real bodies and real standards."

In the cover story, Graham reminds readers, "67 per cent of the women in America wear a size 14 or larger... Maybe you could ignore those consumers before, but now, thanks to social media, they're making their voices heard... What they want is it be visible."

The magazine might be heading in the right direction with this cover, but they sure do have a long way to go. The fashion industry often looks to the fashion bible as to how the industry is moving, so this cover could be a good sign of the things to come.
