British model, Iskra Lawrence has spoken out about photographers trying to airbrush her images.
Lawrence has become one of 2016's biggest rising stars, making her debut at New York Fashion Week as well as the new face for Simply Be and fronting Aerie's unretouched lingerie campaign. But it hasn't been an easy journey to where she's at now.
In a recent interview with Seventeen, the model talks about how she struggled with photographers to accept her body in its natural form for publications. She mentions one incicdent in particular, where she was severly edited that when the magazine was published her own family couldn't even recognise her. Her arms were "half the size" and magically a thigh gap appeared. After this she had had enough.
The model then went on to shoot with another photographer and when she was sent the images, it happened again. She was made out to be a different person, and this time she spoke out. When she asked for the original images, the photographer simply said he wasn't "comfortable with that," she replied with "so you don't think I'm good enough unretouched?"
She was determined to make a name for herself, regardless of what photographers said. Hailed as the plus size Gigi Hadid, Lawrence's career has gone from strength to strength all because she had the confidence to stand up to airbrushing.
At a size 14, the model previously faced body confidence issues and spent years aspiring to be thin. But she learnt to love her curves and is trying to help others feel the same way through social media. She only posts untouched pictures of herself to show other women what is real and to embrace who they are.
We are finally seeing that a change is happening; the industry is learning to celebrate diversity and that there is a place for all of us.
