Ever since we said goodbye to summer and hello to autumn, all we've heard about is Pumpkin Spice. Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Spice nail varnish, Pumpkin Spice lipstick, the list is literally endless. But what's the big obsession and where did it come from?
Pumpkin Spice, is traditional a spice mix made up of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove. Dating back to the 1700's, those flavours became popular when combined with pumpkin in sweet pie receipes as a long standing Thanksgiving tradition. But it wasn't until 2003 when Pumpkin Spice became an international phenomenon thanks to... Starbucks.
The coffe chain invented its Pumpkin Spiced Latte (or 'PSL) after noticing how well seasonal drinks became. After several experimental taste tests and brainstorming sessons, the PSL was born. Fast-forward to 2012, and the PSL made it's way across the Atlantic to the UK and women have gone mad for it.
You can't escape the Pumpkin Spice craze, from make-up and hair-colour, to confectionery and even protein powder. Yes, protein powder... The popularity is set to continue as it looks like this trend has no signs of slowing down.
