Say Goodbye to High Heels

Sports luxe and athleisure have both been a 'go-to' trend for some time now with women ditching the suit for silk joggers paired with a oversized jumper to get that casual yet on trend look. And it would now appear that footwear is no exception, with women kicking off their favourite high heels in favour of trainers and sliders.

Even Posh Spice herself - always seen in a pair of sky-high heels - has ditched her signature look at this seasons New York Fashion Week for baggy trousers and flats. According to the fashion and features editor at InStyle Magazine, the move from heels to trainers is a "natural progression" and have become more popular with women as they've been featured heavily both on the catwalk and the High Street.

With the likes of Adidas and Nike becoming more popular than ever, we have also seen old school sportswear brands such as Puma, Reebok and Fila make their return thanks to the recent rise in the trend. Whatever the type of trainer, the more unqiue the better, it seems that you really can't go wrong with a simple training shoe, giving you a casual, yet cool modern luxury look.

Sportwear first came onto fashion radar back in the twenties thanks to designers such as Jean Patou and Coco Chanel. Patou was even responsible for the first knitted wool jersey swimsuits for women. Men also began to wear athletic clothing for the first time as they ditched theitr suits.

By the 1940's, the foundations of American sportwear was created through designers such as Claire McCardell, Cashin and Anne Klein. Twenties years later in the sixities, Emilio Pucci was the key sportswear designer. His popular designs were inspired by psychedelia and Op art.

When the eighties came about sportwear was taken to a whole new level. Designers Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren were introduced to the scene with Klein's sportwear range accessible to the masses ranging from high-end to more affordable pieces and while Ralph Lauren's preppy look became popular. Adidas also emerged during this time.

With Adidas Originals, Nike's Air Max, Reebok Classics and New Balance to name a few becoming a staple item within the industry, if you haven't already, it's time to invest in the trend. It's time to bring comfort back. You can now have style and comfort in your favourite pair of flats compared to the pain you get wearing your killer heels.
